On April 1st, 2019, the Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) of AIETI organized Autism day event. The goal of the event was to inform medical students about the changes in diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorders and appropriate management of patients in the clinical setting. Dr.Nana Tatishvili, Senior Pediatric Neurologist in Iashvili Central Hospital gave a guest lecture about the disorder and it's presentation. Dr.Alexandra Gvenatadze, resident physician of Ob/Gyn in Gagua Clinic was also invited to give a lecture about Known maternal factors that can influence the child being diagnosed with ASD later in life. After the presentation session, students participated in a case discussion workshop which involved a virtual patient. The session was preceded over by SIGN President and students actively took part in diagnosing their virtual patient. The event continued on April 2nd April as student members of the interest group went over to various hospitals to give out flyers about Autism Awareness with the goal of educating the public about myths and truths about Autism. Autism affects 1 in 59 children and it's prevalence has increased over the past decade. Its prognosis can be improved by early identification and therapy. It is important for parents of children with Autism to report their child's symptoms and get care immediately. As a physician, it is important to clinically identify Autism and to refer on time
