Professor Giorgi Pkhakadze has been selected as a member of the Independent Assessment Committee (IAC) of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations' (GAVI) Pneumococcal Advanced Market Commitment (AMC). Professor Pkhakadze joined DTMU in 2007 and is head of the Social and Behavioral Science Department of the AIETI Medical School, and also the School of Public Health.
The IAC is an impartial oversight body responsible for determining whether a candidate vaccine proposed by an AMC registered manufacturer meets the selection criteria in terms of vaccine stereotype, target population/target age group, dosage schedule, route of administration and product formulation. In addition, as part of its monitoring role, the IAC appraises when and if an adjustment of the pre-set long-term price of vaccines is necessary. Finally, the IAC has a dispute resolution function.
Professor Pkhakadze also continue to serve as a Panelist, on the United Nations Secretary General’s Independent Accountability Panel for the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (since 2016); he is also a Member of the Technical Review Panel (TRP), GFATM, since 2014.
